Launching the Commons' Wildlife Fund

Between 22nd to 29th April, the Wimbledon & Putney Commons Conservators (WPCC) are taking part in the Big Give to raise £20,000 for wildlife.

One week only: Your donation will be doubled during the Big Give!

Wimbledon and Putney Commons are 1,140 acres of much‑loved green space and home to a rich range of habitats. It is these habitats — and the rare sense of wilderness they create — that make the Commons so special.

The Commons include heathland, grassland, woodland, wetlands and some of London’s last remaining peat bogs. These habitats support plants, insects, birds and amphibians, but they face growing pressures from climate change, invasive species and the impacts of being surrounded by an urban environment and growing population. Without regular, skilled management, many of the Commons’ most important features would gradually decline.

To guide this work, WPCC has developed a 10‑year Land Management Plan, setting out the actions needed to restore habitats, improve climate resilience and keep the Commons special for both wildlife and people. Much of this work involves multiple small, practical interventions across the site, rather than one large project. Delivering it requires specialist skills, equipment and resources beyond our day‑to‑day maintenance budget — which is why we are creating a dedicated Wildlife Fund.

Can you help WPCC care for this much loved wilderness in our community?
