At the November Members' Meeting on the Thames Tideway Tunnel speakers from the project explained the work that will be carried out on the Putney Embankment and foreshore over the next three years.
The BMB consortium of civil engineering contractors will build the western end of the tunnel including the work at Putney. This involves linking the two CSOs (Combined Sewer Overflows) under Putney Bridge to the main tunnel, which will be 30m below the centre line of the river itself. (There will also be similar work carried out at Barn Elms to incorporate the Beverley Brook CSO). The work at Putney is complicated by the obligation to build a temporary slipway as the one next to Putney Bridge will be inaccessible and to schedule works around the annual University Boat Race!
