Screening of Fahrenheit 451 - Ibstock Place School, Roehampton 7:00 pm 25th February

Event Date: Feb 25, 2019

Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature at which paper ignites.  The 1963 book by American author Ray Bradbury imagines a future where people are fobidden to read, firemen don't out out fires, but start them and wall-to-wall TV is more real than reality for some.   The book examines what this means for society and the French director Francois Truffaut made it into a powerful film which raises issues relevant in our digital age!

Why show the film?  For the 1966 production the, then new, Alton Estate in Roehampton was chosen as a vision of the future.  The film shows Dunbridge House and the bungalows on Minstead Gardens - all in pristine condition - and closes with (maybe) Kingsmere on Putney Heath.
